Waybills.com is the fruition of efforts begun in 1982 when I
started a shipping operation for a major cut flower grower in northern
California. As the company expanded and daily shipping increased, many of the
employees had multiple tasks. The need to complete air bills correctly became
apparent when a major airline lost twelve full boxes of red roses on the tenth
of February and met their obligations by paying us $50.00 a box. The value of
that shipment was closer to $700.00 a box . In the rush of Valentines shipping,
we had not entered insurance values. As the years passed, we tried many ways to
complete waybills and finally the Professional Waybill Printer Program was born.
While demonstrating the program to a major berry grower and shipper in the area,
the head of shipping and export mentioned the need for a way to quickly complete
error free Phytosanitary Certificates. In 1996, a year after that request, the
first Phytosanitary Certificate Completion Program was put in place at that same
berry grower's shipping operation. The program quickly completed Phytosanitary
Certificates error free and maintained records of each certificate. It was
so much easier and faster that several of the USDA inspectors asked if an
enhanced version could be developed for the local USDA offices. That program
became operational in 1997. These locations and many others are using these
programs today. These programs save time, eliminate errors, and build quickly
accessible histories of Waybills and Phytosanitary Certificates. |
